Chaos in a Driven, Nonlinear Electrical Oscillator: Determining Feigenbaum's Delta
نویسنده
چکیده
M.J. Feigenbaum has shown that all systems that exhibit a period doubling route to chaos share a common scaling function, such that δ = (V2 − V1) / (V3 − V2 ) = 4.669... This value, δ , is called "Feigenbaum's delta." A current driven by a function generator, traveling through a resistor, inductor, and a diode, acts as a driven nonlinear electrical oscillator, and is shown to exhibit a period doubling route to chaos. This system was used to experimentally determine δ , producing an average value of δ =5.0±1.0, consistent with the theoretical value.

Frequency–driven chaos in the electrical circuit of Duffing-Holmes oscillator and its control
Accurate detection of weak periodic signals within noise and possibility of secure messaging have made Duffing oscillator (DO) highly important in the field of communication. Investigation on the properties of DO is thus ardently sought for. An elegant approach to accomplish the same is to fabricate electronic circuit simulating DO non-linear equation and to study the effect of input signal amp...
متن کاملBack-Stepping Sliding Mode Controller for Uncertain Chaotic Colpitts Oscillator with no Chattering
By introducing Colpitts oscillator as a chaotic system, this paper deals with back-stepping control method and investigates the restrictions and problems of the controller where non-existence of a suitable response in the presence of uncertainty is the most important problem to note. In this paper, the back-stepping sliding mode method is introduced as a robust method for controlling nonlinear ...

The harmonic oscillator is a paradigm of predictability. The resonance response of a harmonic oscillator can be exploited to make clocks accurate to 1 part in 10. Harmonic oscillations are normally observed in systems operating near equilibrium and governed by linear or “Hooke’s law” restoring forces. Nonetheless, for small enough excursions from equilibrium, systems governed by nonlinear resto...
متن کاملChaos in a double driven dissipative nonlinear oscillator.
We propose an anharmonic oscillator driven by two periodic forces of different frequencies as a time-dependent model for investigating quantum dissipative chaos. Our analysis is done in the framework of the statistical ensemble of quantum trajectories in a quantum state diffusion approach. The quantum dynamical manifestations of chaotic behavior, including the emergence of chaos, properties of ...
متن کاملEffects of additive noise on a nonlinear oscillator exhibiting period doubling and chaotic behavior
A previous paper,1 denoted by I, reported observation of universal chaotic behavior for a driven nonlinear semiconductor oscillator which shows successive period-doubling bifurcations as a route to chaos.2 Semiquantitative agreement was observed for several universal numbers computed from simple nonlinear finite difference equations of the Feigenbaum universality class, which includes the logis...
